Yes, folks, there IS a way to keep your older vehicle and still reap the
benefits of the new laws concerning Hybrids!
How would you like to:
- Receive tax breaks!
- Drive (alone) in the Carpool Lane!
- Increase your gas mileage!
- Modernize and increase the value of your vehicle!
You betcha! But how?
Simple! Buy the Hybridizer 2001, the do-it-yourself kit
that converts ANY vehicle into a Hybrid! With simple tools and an
afternoon of easy work, you can bring your old clunker into the 21st
century!
This fantastic kit provides the following benefits:
- Soaks up excess energy when braking, storing it right in your vehicle
battery for future use!
- Provides clean, pollution-free electric "assist" power to your
conventional gasoline engine whenever your foot is "on the gas"!!!
- Entire kit weight only 15 pounds! Simple! Foolproof! No computer!
- Best of all, your vehicle, no matter what make, model or age, is now
ready to qualify for all the new government incentives only Hybrids can earn! Pay for the kit with the rebate you
receive!!!
How does it work? How do I install it? Glad you asked...
- Install a relay which cuts out your alternator EXCEPT when the brake lights are on! Takes 15 minutes! Instantly your vehicle has regenerative braking!
Wow!
- Install a microswitch and power relay that TURNS ON only when the gas
pedal is fully depressed! 15 more minutes of work! Now your vehicle is ready
for the final modification!
- Mount the DC motor and supplied replacement alternator pulley, and connect
the power wire from the power relay. Clean, pollution-free power is ready
to flow!
- Attach the self-adhesive simulated chrome "Hybrid" logo to the rear
of your vehicle, and you are DONE! Welcome to the benefits of Hybrids!
Still more questions? We have answers!
- Can I install the Hybridizer 2001 on any car or truck? Even my converted
Greyhound bus? Will it qualify for a tax rebate?
Yes!!
- My vehicle was built before 1963 and it has NO pollution control equipment
on it. Will the Hybridizer 2001 really make it a Hybrid?
Yes!!
- My SUV gets only 9 MPG. Will the Hybridizer 2001 work for me? Will I get better mileage? Can I use the carpool lanes while driving
ALONE?

Note: THIS IS A JOKE! This page is intended solely as a joke. While the
"Hybridizer Kit" would work axactly as described, and it WOULD recapture
some energy from braking and return it during acceleration, the amount
would probably be insignificant. In addition, a kit like the one described
would require a better battery, low-voltage overrides to keep the battery
charged during long period with no braking (such as long trips), and other
safeguards. Would the government really grant "Hybrid" privledges to a
vehicle equipped with such a kit? That is the joke - Here is the US
Government IRS defintion of a "Hybrid Vehicle" from
http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/tech/TechSnapCivic_Final.pdf:
In recently issued guidance, the U.S. Internal Revenue Service (IRS)
clarified that hybrid vehicles -- defined as those powered both by a gasoline
internal combustion engine and an electric motor that is recharged as the
vehicle operates -- are eligible for a federal "clean-fuel" tax deduction
of up to $2,000.
For hybrids purchased in past years, "the deduction would apply not only to
returns being filed for tax year 2002, but also for the previous two years
for which hybrid vehicles were available. The deduction could be claimed
for a past year by a taxpayer filing an amended return."
Source: www.irs.gov/pub/irs-news/ir-02-97.pdf
Sadly, the "Hybridizer" WOULD qualify according to the above language,
while providing almost NO benefit to the world (or the owner, for that matter!)
. In the rush to glamorize and validate "Hybrid" technology, no QUANTITATIVE
requirements (must save %fuel, must offset %pollution) are provided by the
IRS to qualify for the tax incentives. Are "Hybrids" a good thing? Maybe.
Should we be giving $2,000 tax incentives to vehicle owners simply because
their vehicle is "powered both by a gasoline internal combustion engine
and an electric motor that is recharged as the vehicle operates" - which
includes the new laughable "Hybrid SUV's" - absolutely NOT. Use those
tax incentives for carpool lanes and to subsidize public transportation,
and to break America's addiction to personal motor vehicles.
OK - now I am being dead serious.
How to convert your car to a hybrid? Sell it. Buy a hybrid with the
proceeds. There is no other practical way.
