Ever since I began pedaling my PPPM pedal generator and
powering all my devices with my daily workouts,
I have dreamed of creating an online "Green Virtual Gym" where other
people who generate electricity by pedaling could join me, to share
the amount of power we have produced, and enjoy some mutual
support and enthusiasm for what we are doing. Sound like fun?
If you would like to join the Green Virtual Gym, click on the
"Request Membership" link right below the Member's
Power Logs table. If you are not ready to join but might
be interested if the Green Virtual Gym had the "right stuff,"
let me know your thoughts on the offerings I have listed below and then
press the "I'd like to see these in the Green Virtual Gym"
button. It will activate a voice synthesizer that
will say "I am interested in joining the Green Virtual Gym" and
send me your wish list - that's all. If I am within earshot, I'll
become inspired and work more on the Green Virtual Gym.
Many people write me with ideas to capture power from exercise equipment
in real Gyms. Compared to the power it takes to run the Gym, or the power
it takes to drive to the Gym and back, that amount of power is miniscule.
For example, if you use one gallon of gasoline to drive to the Gym
and back, the energy you use to make a single trip will take TWO YEARS
of pedaling to "pay back." The Green Virtual Gym is mostly green because
you don't drive to get here. It's also green because this server is
100% Solar and Pedal Powered!
Several bicycle ride workout videos are now available in the Green Virtual Gym. I
shoot all the videos myself while riding a bike. It's not easy to shoot
good quality (never mind great quality!) video from a bicycle. You will
see the quality improve over time as I perfect my techniques.
In March 2008 I added a beautiful ride along the Los Gatos Creek trail.
Anyone "riding the rollers" up North or back East where there is still
Winter weather will appreciate watching these clips while you ride. Enjoy!
