Los Gatos KIWANIS CLUB News Items

Cool Guy Our Division 12 Lt. Gov. Designate Paul Dubois and wife, Mary Tomasi, attended the 77th CAL-NEV-HA District Convention in Pasadena, CA as delegates. Mary reported to our club that the energetic young presidents of the Keywins, the Circle K, and the Key Club were a highlight of the meeting, along with Hugh O'Brian, Jr., the lunch speaker. A variety of resolutions were approved, including the investiture of Bob Jolly as an International Trustee.

At the July 10th Luncheon VP Bob Jones told of his adventures at the 82nd Annual Kiwanis International Convention in Nashville, Tennessee.

Elvis is still dead, apparently, but Garth Brooks played at the Grand Ole Opry and David Letterman's mom covered the convention for TV.

Bob began by thanking the board for helping him to attend along with over 14,200 others, including 9,000 Kiwanians and over 500 youth. Kiwanis is in 87 nations now, and China stood out especially among the attendees. Bob went to training sessions such as the "Future of Kiwanis" and two specifically for incoming presidents and had lunch with basketball star Shawn Bradley who spoke about the Children's Miracle Network. Actor, Roger Moore spoke about IDD, one of Bob's personal causes, and so did a remarkable 12 year old from South Dakota who performed on the piano and violin, has taken college courses and has raised $1,000 for IDD.

Bob saw Bob Jolley from CalNevHa and met Walter Sellers, incoming and first African-American President of Kiwanis International. Bob appreciates that not everyone is interested in Kiwanis beyond the local level, but he enjoyed the chance to learn from others from around the world and see the big picture with the upper echelons of the organization.
