Next Week ~ May 8th
Jo Ann Benjamin will discuss the merits and benefits of the Los Gatos School District Parcel Tax. This tax is about to expire so it will have an impact on the school district operations.
This Week ~ May 1st
We were treated to a very interesting presentation from Eddie Reynolds, a Board Member of The Theater Works Repertoire in Palo Alto. And more importantly, Eddie is Bob Jones’ son-in-law. Starting in the early 1970’s this theater group has become a platform for launching new and interesting stage productions in the Bay Area, some of which have received national acclaim. Performing drama, comedy and musicals, it is considered the 3rd ranking theater group in the Bay Area. They focus on presenting diverse and innovative productions. The stage play of the movie “Summer of 42” was produced and premiered by the group and later received a short run on Broadway. Several of their performers have received Tony and Grammy Awards. Starting with a small budget, it now has an operating budget of $6.5 million. They are expecting three of their works to make Broadway this year.
Guests:
Our guests were Grace and John Sorg, and Lucy Romero, friends of Pat Jones. – Jodie Corwin, assistant for Eddie Reynolds. – Roberta Savage who will be a member shortly.
Meeting Happenings
There appears to be a surreptitious coup d’état in the making as our presiding president was summarily replaced by Steve Norton. It is speculation that this may be Steve’s political maneuver to get his hat in the ring for future power. One must carefully watch those eager to control. – Al opened the meeting with God Bless America and Ellen gave the invocation. After stumbling on the opening protocol Steve exercised his sudden surge of power and had the protocol insurrection quelled. The meeting rapidly deteriorated into banal blather as Don Wolf and Mike Wasserman solicited a bit of humor with a series of jokes. Bob Jones encouraged those that plan to bring guests to the Turn around Scholarship to notify him ASAP. He reported that our TAS fund raising efforts have yielded almost $7K. Steve tried to humiliate Bart for his past birthday (he succeeded) and the trio sang Happy Birthday to Sheldon. A board meeting will be held at Ernie’s on 6 May at 5:15 PM. Kiwanis Special Games will be on 16 May.
Happy/Sad Dollars
Bill Harvey was sad that he had missed some meeting due to the flu and was sad about Mike’s jokes. - Ernie was happy that he did not have to preside. – Rosalie was happy to be home from Arizona. – Pat Jones was happy for good friends. – Virginia was happy for her spring flowers. – Don was unhappy for not being able to attend next weeks meeting and really unhappy because he will be in Lisbon where gas in $8/gal.
