Next Week ~ May 1st

The program will be provided by TheatreWorks, a Silicon Valley startup. After going online I was amazed at this quality organization that exists right here in the Bay Area. Theatre Works is committed to being one of America’s outstanding professional theaters. They provide dramatic and musical theater of outstanding professional quality. They feature new plays as well as the classics. Their productions reflect the diversity that is found in the Bay Area. They employ over 300 artists. They have a 24 member board of trustees a professional staff of 42 and they play to over 100,000 patrons every year. They have been in existence since 1971. Come and enjoy an excellent program and enjoy the food and fellowship that is the Los Gatos Kiwanis Club.

This Week ~ April 24th

Our program was an excellent presentation provided by Malcolm Bordelon. Malcolm is the Executive Vice President of Silicon Valley Sports & Entertainment. They are the parent company of the San Jose Sharks Hockey Team. The timing of this program was shear genius in that the Sharks have just advanced to the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Malcolm said he really likes to give presentations when they are winning. He provided a glimpse of what it is like to manage a major sports franchise. When you look at it like a business it is very different from a sports point of view. The Sharks are involved in everything from soccer to boxing and even mixed martial arts. They are also involved in promoting a hockey league in China. They are heavily involved in developing Ice Rinks around the country. The former Logitech Ice Rink in San Jose. is one of their projects. It is now known as Sharks Ice until a suitable corporate sponsor can be found. This facility in San Jose is a large contributor to the local economy due to the large number of hotel rooms that they fill for their various hockey tournaments that they sponsor. Terry Martin, of our club, participates in a men’s Hockey league at this facility. If you have further questions go to the Sharks Website at www.sanjosesharks.com. You can read Malcolm’s bio there as well.
