Next Week ~ April 17th

The program will be a presentation by Martha Kelly on Reverse Mortgages. A lot of us are sitting on a lot of equity in our homes. Reverse Mortgages allow us to take advantage of that with very little risk. Come and enjoy a very timely topic, and as always an excellent lunch. See you at the meeting.

This Week ~ April 10th

Our program was a substitute for our regular speaker who backed out at the last minute. Mary Bartlett stepped in and gave an interesting presentation on Viet Nam in 1970. Mary and her husband Steve went to Vietnam in 1970 right in the middle of the war. Fortunately she took a lot of pictures which show Saigon and the surrounding countryside as it was before the communists took control. It was interesting to see the countryside littered with damaged and bombed out buildings. Steve and Mary were warned by the State Department about going to Viet Nam, but they went anyway. Steve’s brother married a Vietnamese woman who lives in Los Gatos today. This was a fascinating story and one that stimulated a lot of questions and discussion afterward.

Guests:

Our only guest was prospective new member, Walter Borlase. Walter was filling out an application the last time I saw him. Walter will be an excellent addition to our club.

Meeting Happenings

We opened with “My Country Tis of Thee led by Ellen Graff. Ernie led the pledge and Janet Jones gave the invocation. Bob Jones gave a brief report on the TAS event. Our club contributed over $5000.00 toward the effort. Barbara Koplos reported on the Rose Garden clean up. A lot of people were there. Key Clubbers were also there. Steve gave a report on the Pajama Program. The program has been adopted by Microsoft Corporation for their employees. Steve and his wife Sheila gave a presentation on the program to the Microsoft leadership conference that was being held in Fremont. It was very exciting. Don Wolf had a little fun at the expense of Barack Obama.

Happy/Sad Dollars

Doug Beattie was happy about a variety of things. Most had to do with Stanford Basketball. He was upset about the coach leaving. Mary, Trudy and Ray were all happy about the recent TAS event. This year was the best of all. Anita was happy about a recent Flying Doctors Trip. Bob Jones passed a recent stress test with flying colors. He was also happy about the TAS results. Don Wolf was happy about the Stanford women and had mixed feelings about the Sharks. Tim Coughlin is happy about his daughter’s pregnancy. Ellen was happy about her cousin’s recent heart surgery.

Tim won the pot and very generously left his $8.00 in the pot.
