Next Week ~ April 24th

The program will be provided by Malcolm Bordelon, who is the Executive VP for Business Operations for Silicon Valley Sports Entertainment. They own and operate the San Jose Sharks. Malcolm will discuss the management of an NHL hockey team from a business standpoint. This should be a very interesting and timely meeting since the Sharks are participating in the Stanley Cup Playoffs as we speak. I have just been informed by Malcolm that he will have some Sharks memorabilia that we can auction off at the meeting. This is an opportunity to bring a friend to Kiwanis. If the Sharks loose in the first round we will have to be very understanding and not harass the speaker too much. If they win this should be a very happy event. See you at the meeting. Don’t forget to bring a friend. This is a mandatory meeting for Trudy McCulloch and Terry Martin. If they don’t show up they will be chastised severely.

This Week ~ April 17th

Our program was an interesting discussion about Reverse Mortgages led by Martha Kelley and Philipe Doren of WSB Mortgage Services. Since they are the opposite of Forward Mortgages, Reverse Mortgages allow the home owner to tap into the equity they have accumulated over the years. They pay you instead of you paying them. If you or your spouse is over 62 years of age you can qualify for a Reverse Mortgage. There are no special income, credit or medical requirements to qualify. You don’t even need an existing income. Even if you own money on your 1st or 2nd Mortgage, you may be eligible. The amount you receive will depend on several factors such as the age of your home, the appraised valuation, and current interest rates. You cannot be forced to sell your home, until you die or until you vacate the premises. The Reverse Mortgage is one of the safest options available to seniors today. They are fully insured by the FHA and regulated by HUD. If you have further questions contact WSB Reverse Mortgage, Inc. at 408-464-2158 or www.reversemortgage4u.com

Guests:

Our guests were the speakers, Martha Kelley and Philipe Doren from WSB Mortgage Services. Our newest member, Mike Loya from the venue was also with us. Mike was introduced as a visitor and then due to a snafu by our Pres, his introduction was withdrawn and reinstated as a full fledged member. Both Ernie and Steve were fined for that one.

Meeting Happenings

We opened with a patriotic song led by the silky baritone voice of Al Simon. Al sounded especially good today. Janet gave the invocation and I believe Tim Coughlin led us in the pledge. Ernie reminded us of the Giant Morgan Hill Interclub coming up on Monday May 5th starting at 6:00 PM. Dinner will start around 7:00 PM there will be a Giant Raffle with lots of prizes. Dinner is $25.00 which includes a drink ticket. Clubs are urged to provide a headcount before arriving. For additional information call Paul Alpert @ 408-778-9477. Rosalie informed us of the Kurosawa Piano Music Foundation. Go to www.kpmff.org for additional information. They are showcasing young piano duos playing the classics. Pat Jones told an excellent joke and Mike Wasserman read an interesting comparison between Abraham Lincoln and JFK. Pat’s joke was slightly off color. Ask her about it if you didn’t hear it.
